Twitter is one of those things that at first I didn’t get. Then after being told I “need” to be on there, I signed up. After a couple of lame “I am at work, working” type of posts, I abandoned it. I just didn’t get the point.
However, I recently took it up again. Now? I get it. I am finding I really like Twitter quite a bit. I can shoot out, quickly, updates on things like when I put up a new blog post, or when a new version of our software is out. I can also quickly get news and information from those I follow via Twitter. I am getting information much faster than I ever did with RSS and in a format that I really like.
I am just getting started with Twitter, but so far I have to admit, I like what I see.
It also turns out, the future of Twitter could get very interesting. Check out this Wired article about a University of Wisconsin Student who is able to Tweet using his brain.
You read that right – he is using his brain to post messages onto Twitter, no keyboard needed.
The thought (ahem – sorry) is that disabled people can then easily Tweet their thoughts – e-mail is too long, but Twitter with its 140 character limit is just right.
So that is Twitters possible future. As to its past? What if I told you Twitter was invented back in 1932?
Check out this awesome system of leaving short messages for friends that was invented almost 80 years ago.
For those that already use Twitter or for those that are ready to start, go ahead and “follow” us. You can find out about new blog postings and other announcements by following @selkienorth and you can follow me specifically @mbleicher.
