Would you claim your profits from Ebay as taxable income?

Would you claim income from Ebay? ebay-logo

I read an article recently that told me that I might be affected by a new government “enforcement” I almost threw up.

Could you imagine where every cent you made had to be claimed as income? Lets say for arguments sake that you ran a lemonade stand that made you some extra cash, or you had a garage sale to buy some new furniture.  What would you do if the government was watching and told you that you needed to claim that money as taxable income! Crazy right?

Apparently not! If you sell things on Ebay, whether it’s personal items (just like having a garage sale on the internet) or you are selling other people’s stuff, you may be forced to do the above. Now, of course, if you use Ebay as your primary source of income then, yes, they may have a point. However, if you are selling something non-commercially I think that this is absurd.

lemonadeSo watch out you 11 year olds running lemonade stands! You’re next!
