Trouble finding/transferring old files

I purchased the Selkie Migration and Data Recovery software, and I have
been having trouble transfering/finding my old files. In the Selkie Rescue
Center, I can see a display of all the folders that were found on my broken
computer, which is great. However, When I click on each folder to transfer
it over, there are no files in the folders. For instance, I have a picture
folder under Documents and Settings. In that picture folder, I have several
other folders containing different groups of photo files. I can drill down
to the individual group folders, but the photo files within these folders
are not shown (folders all say they are empty). I have a similar problem
with my music files and many other files. I am wondering if this might be
because my broken computer is running Windows XP Media Center Edition, and
my working computer is running Windows Vista. Also, because of the two
operating systems, my computers are not directly connected via a cable.
Instead, my broken computer is directly connected to the router, and my
working is networking through the wireless card to the router (Selkie tech
support helped me with this because there was a network issue when the two
systems were directly connected). Please help, it’s torture to see a folder
named “Christmas 2007” not containing any files!

Burning the boot CD from an alternative burning program

Although Selkie’s CD burner attempts to be compatible with all burners, there are times when the burning utility may not make a bootable CD. If this is the case, we recommend attempting to use a third-party burning utility to burn Selkie’s image file. More information on burning using third-party utilities is available under Start Menu -> Selkie Rescue -> Burning Selkie to a CD.

One free burning utility option available is Iso Recorder.

Selkie Rescue’s bootable CD is available as an ISO image under the install directory. This is by default:
C:program filesSelkie Rescue 3.5selkie.iso.

I am running windows XP professional. No changes have been made recently with computer, all I did was shut it off and the next time I went to boot it up I get these messages:

First the screen comes up with the message “We apologize for the inconvenience but windows did not start successfully...” And you have the options of starting in safe mode, starting from the last successful configuration or starting normally. Regardless of which choice picked, the next screen is the blue screen of death, at which it will count to 100, restart and begin the whole process over.

The Blue screen of death has the following message:

The registry cannot load the hive (file):

I have dell desktop with windows xp home edition. I have been getting an error message saying that the disk drive is low on memory. The load up speed is extremely slow, and I have ran my Macafee antivirus to remove any virus that I might have had, and I also ran Malwarebytes in safe mode. The only programs that I have currently installed is Micorsoft 2007, the antivirus and spyware programs, and it still says that the c drive is still low on memory. I can’t reinstall the system because i don’t have a recovery disk for the desktop. Any help will be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance

Why DIY Real-time Data Recovery?

Your computer has crashed and you cannot get back into your operating system. How are you going to get the data back? What Data Recovery options are available? Or what if you simply want to transfer a lot of your files without much hassle?

So what do you do? Perhaps if you are a highly technical person you remove the hard drive, hook it up to another computer, set it as a slave drive and then boot up the new computer. At which point, if everything was done correctly, you copy the data over to your new computer’s drive. It is a long, painstaking process.

Another option is to take it to a computer repair shop like Best Buy’s Geek Squad.
image

Geek Squad will do all of the work for you. They will rescue the data by removing the drive or using other tools. Of course, they will charge you hundreds of dollars to do it. It could also take 2 weeks or more. Worse, they may end up damaging your computer while doing it. Even worse, they might take some of your private data off of your computer while they are in there.

First, Geek Squad employees do not feel the need to take certain accepted safety precautions when working with a computer. A Best Buy poll of its Geek Squad Employees reveal that over 80% do not bother to wear anti-static wristbands in order to prevent severely damaging static electricity from damaging the inside of the computer they are working on.

Second, many Geek Squad employees appear to treat a customer’s hard drive like their own personal playground. Do you have private pictures or other data you do not wish outside eyes to see? Then do not take your computer to Geek Squad. Don’t just take our word for it, read this signed confession letter from a Geek Squad employee who got caught.

So what are you supposed to do to get that precious data back? Do it yourself! I know it might seem like a scary prospect, but with Selkie Rescue it is as easy as hitting “enter” 3 times. We make data recovery so easy that anyone can do it. Just put the Selkie Live CD into your broken computer’s drive and boot up! It will find your home network and from there you can begin to transfer files to another computer. Don’t have a home network? Not a problem! In our premium product we include a cross-over cable so that you can just hook up a second computer directly to the broken computer and begin transferring files.

Don’t trust a stranger with your valuable data, trust yourself. Use Selkie Rescue Data Recovery.

ITunes and the BSOD

I bought my dad a new generation IPod for Christmas this year. Problem was that it asked me to download the latest version of ITunes. I had heard that their latest version had issues and could cause the BSOD. Well not like I had a lot of choice so I downloaded it-long story short after I restarted my computer, I got the BSOD and couldn’t boot into Windows, no matter how many times I tried. I’m wondering if your software can save my playlists that I’ve made in ITunes if I recover all my music. I spent weeks making them and I don’t know what else to do, unless you’ve got a suggestion. Thanks!
